Abstract
This paper describes the conceptualisation of automatic policing and information systems. A distinction is made between on-site systems, in-car systems and integrated systems. It is argued that all systems should incorporate behaviour monitoring and evaluation for detecting offences, driver warning and feedback components and offence registration components. The legal aspects of such systems are discussed briefly. It is concluded that seven different classes of offences can be identified that are particularly suitable to automatic monitoring. A strategic implementation of automatic policing and information systems is outlined.
