Abstract

Trends in travel in Scotland are outlined. These include increased reliance and distance travelled by car, a reduction in cycling and walking and the growth of air travel. The need for reduced journey times, less congestion, improved public transport and reduced environmental impact is acknowledged. Improved quality, accessibility and better affordability of public transport and through ticketing are considered necessary. Implementation isplanned through regional transport partnerships, local authorities and transport operators.
