Seamless and efficient communication in ITS network : ITS experiment.

Abstract

Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO) established Yokosuka ITS Research Center in YRP (Yokosuka Research Park) in October 1999. R&D on technologies required to realize ITS info-communication system have been made in the research center. Since then, as one of research activities in this project, we have been researching a wireless agent technology to realize a seamless communication and to provide efficient data delivery infrastructure in ITS networks. ITS networks consist of several access networks, such as DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communications), cellular/IMT-2000, digital satellite broadcasting, and so on. It is necessary to provide a comfortable access to users by making good use of features of each access network. This paper made an experimental system using the outdoor facilities in spring, 2002 reflecting research achievements and results. This paper describes R&D items and reports a demonstration of the experimental ITS services.
