Abstract

This report presents a summary of the results of the 1994 survey to monitor seat belt wearing and child restraint usage by occupants of vehicles under two tonnes in the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong and major country centres in New South Wales (NSW). Included in this report is an analysis of the survey data for NSW total, followed by metropolitan Sydney, NSW country (excluding Newcastle and Wollongong), Newcastle and Wollongong. All of these sections include tables dealing with all vehicles except taxis, covering "Availability of Restraint", "Usage of Restraint" and "Quality of Usage". Taxis are then examined in each section, with results being presented for "Availability" and "Restraint Usage". The number of taxis observed Newcastle and Wollongong was insufficient to produce detailed taxi tables for these regions. A summary of wearing rates is also provided for each area. The NSW total section also includes tables examining wearing rates by sex and vehicle type. (A)
