Abstract

The central objectives of the research were: (1) to estimate the relationship of seat belt usage to the age and sex of automobile drivers and to the road types, traffic conditions and population densities in which they drive; (2) to establish reliable estimates of seat belt usage in Canada; and (3) to estimate the effect of changing seat belt technology on the extent to which different drivers in different traffic situations use seat belts.
