Abstract

The introduction and use of protective devices and restraint systems are regarded as crucial public health issues for many countries at present. Because of the effectiveness of crash protective measures, the cost benefit of introducing these measures is likely to be considerable. In general, the cost of road accidents represents only + 1% of the gross national product in most countries.
