Abstract

Seattle Metro is currently in the process of developing its 2020 system plan. The three main alternatives being considered are a low-cost TSM plan, a mid-range transitway alternative, and a higher cost rail option. This conference presentation briefly summarizes some of the key aspects of the Seattle area that influence the transportation system and then describes the three alternatives. The focus is mostly on the TSM alternative, as the HOV lane system provides the key investment for this option. This conference was conducted by the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council, Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle and Washington State Department of Transportation in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration and the Urban Mass Transportation Administration.
