Abstract

The smart gateway system could be used to provide such diverse services as traffic information, multimedia contents, and electronic transactions. Attacks against this system could include unauthorized access of the system to evade service charges or delay of traffic (by sending false accident information). To prevent these attacks, it is necessary to authenticate users and devices and protect communication data. This paper presents a method to authenticate vehicles. An experiment shows that the authentication process takes less than 10 ms. The use of biometrics, such as facial and voice data, is also proposed to achieve a hands-free authentication method while preventing impersonation. Implementation of the multi-modal biometrics technique made it possible to control the FAR of hands- free biometrics authentication.
