Abstract

In this paper, the author describes Rotterdam's vision for the transport system of the future. As the world's largest seaport, Rotterdam is committed to improving the accessibility of the Mainport by water, rail and road, and is seeking to achieve this by means of the Select System, which is an integral and selective method for traffic management. The system is based on a mix of measures taken at individual locations throughout the area, and the price mechanism and the public transport system are integral elements of it. The plan is in line with the central government's Trasnport Structure Plan, which seeks to maintain accessibility for freight and commercial traffic.
