Abstract

Numerous liability and consumer protection aspects are involved with telematics applications such as on-board safety checks, display/voice information systems, on-board warning and control devices and external vehicle control systems. When approaching the situation from German and EU legislation, many unclear points are identified, resulting in uncertainties for both the manufacturer and the consumer. To achieve acceptance and rapid distribution of these systems it will be necessary to remove the legal uncertainties. For this purpose technical and legal minimum standards must be defined possibly at international level, and adequate information must be provided to the consumer.
