Abstract

The paper describes the process and results of the work undertaken within the Euroregional VIKING action in order to develop guidelines for traffic monitoring for traffic management purposes. The guidelines development included a number of phases. Firstly, the traffic management operation environments were identified in the VIKING countries. Then the common traffic management services were identified and analysed with regard to the monitoring information requirements. Next, the current quality levels for monitoring were analysed. Finally, a proposal for the quality level requirements was made on the basis of the minimum requirements used currently. The process is finalised now only with regard to cross-section traffic information and incident detection. The work is being continued by validating the proposal via national consultations.
