Abstract

This report identifies the current state of the practice regarding sharing operations data. A primary objective of this study is to document both the qualitative and quantitative business cases for sharing data among agencies. The study also documents the institutional, legal, and technical challenges that can inhibit data sharing. Information used in this study was acquired through a review of the literature, and a survey of state and local transportation operations individuals as well as transit service providers, law enforcement, emergency management agencies, private sector data providers, private sector traveller information providers, and other agencies responsible for transportation operations.
