Abstract

The aims of short term forecasting for freight transport is to assess the likely balance between supply and demand for transport. The aim of long term forecasting is, by contrast, principally concerned with supplying the public authorities with forecasts of the demand for each mode of transport and a plan of the infrastructure requirements needed to meet the increased demand.
