Abstract

The role of the motor vehicle in today's society is summarized, and the relation between the motor vehicle and its environment is discussed. The present system of regulations concerning construction which mainly consider safety, air pollution and noise, are critically surveyed, and their relevance to the possible future major role of the motor vehicle in the urban environment is questioned. A basis for a policy for the introduction of the "urbanized" car is suggested.
