The following report concerns itself with the exercise of collecting, evaluating and describing new research work on the subject of pedestrian safety. It begins with the analysis of accident statistics according to the different factors which contribute to accidents. Multi-factor accident research is described. One chapter is about the normal behaviour of pedestrians, which is partly investigated without reference to the occurrence of accidents and partly related to simultaneous accident occurrence. Safety measures are described in two sections, according to whether or not controls on their effectiveness were undertaken. This is followed by a description of work on the education of pedestrians in traffic. A series of experiments was carried out on the effects of accidents affecting pedestrians and the connection between vehicle shape and the form and degree of injuries. Their evaluation requires specialist medical and technical knowledge.
