Abstract
Roundabouts show to give a safe traffic flow in particular in urban areas where pedestrians, cyclists and moped riders play their role in traffic. After a description of the recent developments in the layout and use of roundabouts in the United Kingdom and in France, first experiences of roundabouts in urban areas in Switzerland are presented. As a special problem the roundabout with access roads, with more than one traffic lane, is studied.
