Side impact severity. The use of discriminant analysis to classify injury.

Abstract

This paper discusses the problems associated with traditional impact severity measures for side impacts. Discriminant analysis is described and used to determine the important variables relating to injuries.Variables such as ETS and intrusion have high serious injury classification rates despite not being optimum in engineering terms.
