Abstract

New side safety structural changes have been developed for some1969 model General Motors cars. .1 low-weight, high-atrengthsteel beam was developed and positioned horizontally in thedoor. In addition, the supporting body structures were rein-forced The resultant structure reduced penetration into thepassenger compartment during side collision tests by causinga deflecting action between the two cars and by preventing rideover of the striking vehicle into the struck car.
