Abstract

This document aims to provide assistance to those involved in the design and operation of signalised roundabouts in the UK. It does not include urban gyratory systems formed of one-way streets. It is noted that there are no standard solutions as the concept encompasses a wide range of junctions. The guidance gives a brief history of signalised roundabouts in the UK and further sections concern the reasons for use of signals at roundabouts;design considerations, including segregated left turns; assessment; and control strategies.
