Abstract

Mixed traffic means different bandwidth requirements for different types of calls. In the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), to be used in the future Broadband ISDN, the calls will use virtual connections. In this context it is not obvious whether a new call can be accepted or not. A detailed decision rule is given for m different traffic streams, based on probability calculations of the number of active virtual connections.
