Abstract

The general background and objectives of Development of Advanced Road Transport Strategies (DARTS) are presented. A specific research project which is part of the DARTS program is dealt with in greater detail: the development of a simulation model which predicts traffic flows in road networks when route information is provided to travellers. This model will be applied to a congested road network where variable message signs are installed. A conceptual framework of the stimulation model is presented.
