Abstract

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE SIMULATION OF (1) A FRONT-TO-SIDE COLLISION BETWEEN TWO IDENTICAL VEHICLES (R 20), AND (2) CONSTRUCTION OF A DEFORMABLE BARRIER, THE REPRODUCIBILITY OF THE DEFORMABLE FACE BEING CHECKED BY MEANS OF TESTS AGAINST A DYNAMOMETRIC BUFFER. A COMPARISON WAS MADE BETWEEN CAR-TO-CAR AND MDB (MOBILE DEFORMABLE BARRIER)-TO-CAR COLLISION TESTS. THE REPRODUCIBILITY OF MDB-TO-CAR TESTS WAS ALSO STUDIED BY USING 5 IDENTICAL MDB-TO-CAR TESTS. THE RESULTS OF THE ABOVE TESTS ARE DISCUSSED; THEY CONFIRM THAT IT IS FEASIBLE TO USE THE LATERAL IMPACT TEST PROCEDURE WHICH USES A MOVING DEFORMABLE BARRIER TO SIMULATE THE IMPACTING VEHICLE.
