Abstract

The methodical approach of simulation based design of control strategies for urban traffic management and control is described. The created microscopic model includes the implementation of several ITS components like traffic actuated control, prioritisation measures for public transport and variable message signs. It can be used for development, assessment and analysis of integrated traffic management systems to be implemented. The development of control strategies for both adaptation of traffic light green times and collective route guidance by means of fuzzy logic is an example shown. A fuzzy controller is described, processing detector data due to obtain additional information on the traffic situation. The results are fed into a second level fuzzy controller deducing route recommendations to be displayed at variable message signs. (A)
