Abstract

The recent significant improvements in the capabilities of driving simulators have also been accompanied by dramatic reduction in the cost of such devices. This development raises the prospect that simulator technology may now have sufficient capability to play a positive cost effective role in driving training and education. This paper addresses the role that simulation may be able to play in enhancing the transfer of skill from the traiing to the operational environment, and reports on a major simulator program being undertaken by TAC Insurance in Victoria, Australia.
