Abstract

The paper describes some of the crash simulation work being carried out at the British Leyland Centre for Computer Aided Body Design which is based at Cowley. The main problem discussed is concerned with the frontal impact of vehicles, where the vehicle is represented by a mass spring system in which the springs are extremely non-linear. The values of the spring rates or stiffness characteristics for the body structure are determined experimentally using a specially designed crush rig. the masses and structural characteristics are then input to the computer and the computer used.
