Abstract

This paper reports on an application of the KNOSIMO traffic simulation program for priority-ruled intersections in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This University of Alberta study was restricted to urban multilane stop- controlled T-intersections and its main objective was to investigate the relationship between delays and safety. As a result, it required a reliable representation of delays. A relatively large sample of delay data was collected, but it was necessary to supplement it by simulation. The KNOSIMO program was validated and used to that end. The paper describes the experience with the program and comments on its applicability to various conditions at the studied T-intersections.
