Abstract

MADYMO simulations were used to help design a component test for evaluating side window glazing systems. The glazing systems were evaluated for their ability to retain an occupant within the vehicle and to minimize the injury potential of occupant into glazing impacts. MADYMO models of component tests, sled tests and full scale rollover tests were developed. Material models for laminated safety glass, tempered glass, glass-plastic, and rigid plastic were used in the simulations. Full scale rollover test were simulated to predict the direction and magnitude of the approach velocity of the head and the thorax into the glazing. The results from these simulations will be used to design a component test for evaluating the retention capability of side window glazing systems.
