Abstract

From the easy measurable occupation-time of usual presence-detectors (by the passing vehicles) you can determine in good approximation the density of vehicles in space and therefore the queue length and the delay, too. This enables an on-line traffic control with optimisation of the measured quantities. The influence of the detector arrangement and of many traffic parameters on the occupation-time method has been investigated by an available simulation model.
