Abstract

The dynamic parking guidance and information system has been considered an effective tool to improve the performance of off-street parking facilities. In this paper a simulation study concerning such a system planned within Hsinyi District in Taipei City will be introduced so as to conclude a solution of optimal control through evaluating the parking performance. The simulation results show that without considering the occupancy thresholds of parking facilities, the highest occupancy as a whole increases with decreasing time interval of updating parking guidance and information sign display. The average parking search time appears however insignificantly different among various time intervals. After introducing control options with occupancy threshold, the average parking search time reduces by all time intervals. Thus, to achieve an optimal control of the dynamic parking guidance and information system within Hsinyi District requires a control option with occupancy threshold. The parking performance will be even better by minimizing the time interval of updating parking guidance and information sign display. (A)
