Abstract

The paper reports a variety of preliminary traffic simulations performed on the Manchester Atlas Computer which follow the same logical operations as those of the Manchester Digital Traffic Simulator. The simulations are limited to the case of two intersections linked by a one-way road and controlled by coordinated fixed-time signals. The first intersection was considered to be isolated with a Poisson distribution for the input traffic. The second intersection was fed by the platoons leaving the first intersection after diffusion on the basis of the theory of Pacey. The first part of the paper considers steady-state simulations while transient behaviour is discussed in the second part.
