Abstract

Skaenetrafiken is the public transport company in Skaene, the most southerly province in Sweden. It is responsible for public transport on buses in ten towns, regional buses between the main centres, express commuter buses and all rail traffic. It is also the Swedish authority responsible for rail traffic on the Oeresund Bridge to Denmark. Public transport use has increased due to the simplifying of tariffs and ticketing systems. A new ticket system is to be introduced in the province. Customers will pay for the number of zones through which they travel and can switch between buses and trains using the same ticket. The card can be used to travel across county and provincial borders and into Denmark. The new system comes from Cubic Transportation Systems. The features offered by the smart card to travellers are outlined. New ticket machines will be installed at 56 railway stations and on board 1000 urban and regional buses. The aim of the new system is to offer customers a better and more individual service.
