Abstract

Motorcycle and rider dynamics are amenable to mathematical analysis, simulation, and experimental evaluation. A number of recommendations made by the Australian House of representatives (HoR) standing committee on road safety in their may 1978 report on motorcycle and bicycle safety were concerned with vehicle and rider stability, and the influence of accessories and tyres on stability. One recommendation was to undertake a literature and research review of this subject. A brief review of the development of the theory of STV dynamics is given and related to the HoR recommendations. Specific directions for applied research are given, with reference to the material referred to in the bibliographic section of this report. The objective of this bibliography is to provide a comprehensive coverage of this diverse field as a start point to the recommended literature and research review of single track vehicles and rider dynamics. This bibliography collates the presently published material on these subjects as related to single track vehicles, together with the addresses of primary organisations conducting research in this field.
