Abstract

This paper deals with a descriptive-statistical analysis of network on the basis of simple gross network characteristics. In six Dutch towns of varying size and character road network size and structure characteristics have been determined. Size is expressed as numbers of network elements, that is numbers of nodes, links and cells, Global structure indices are applied derived from these numbers. In order to examine the potentials for predictions, network size is related to city population and total road length
