This report focuses on victims of crime. More and more attention is being paid to the victim, in assistance as well as in provisions of the law. With regard to assistence, the foundation of the National Organisation of Victim Assistance (LOS) in 1984 and the national network of 72 Victim Assistance bureaus which exists today, can be named. With regard to the position of the victim in the criminal justice system there is the Terwee Law. In the police monitor 1993 - an extensive national survey among 52,000 citizens - a series of questions was included about victimization and treatment of victims. This makes it possible to give a picture of victimisation, the effects of victimalisation, victims' needs of care and support by the police when reporting a crime, and reference by the police to victim support programs.
