Abstract

According to the specifications laid down in the fourth note on physical planning, the Smitshoek location should grow into an area for 10.000 houses and circa 40 hectare industrial area. The connections between this new residential area and other areas depend on the infrastructure in and around the new area. Sixteen possible tram lines are compared and judged on fourteen criteria. These are combined together to form four main criteria: accessibility, investment, journey times and transport quality. A rather simple and flexible transport model was developed.
