Abstract

Road and rail vehicles operate with the aid of friction and within the fundamental limits imposed by available friction. Recognizing the implications on the dynamic behaviour of vehicles and on the improtant aspects of active safety, theoretical and experimental research by the Vehicle Research Laboratory in the area of tyre- road interactions is discussed.
