Abstract

For some years now the overcrowded western part of Holland has had to content with a new kind of traffic problem; traffic used roads in a way for which they were not intended, the so-called rat-run traffic. The nuisance has gradually assumed the proportions of a structural problem. The causes and effects of this rat-run traffic are examined and some ways coping with it are suggested, and some impossibilities are indicated.
