Abstract

The SmartAHS (automated highway system) microsimulation tool is described, beginning with a summary of its original set of functionality to design, analyse and evaluate automated highways. How SmartAHS falls within the context of an evaluation of a system composed of vehicle-highway automation features, and improvements of the constituent models within SmartAHS which allow simulation of the efficacy of driver assist systems are discussed with examples.
