Abstract

A literature survey proves that as yet no relation between road safety and speed limits has been scientifically established. This is caused by a number of factors such as difficulties and errors in measurements, trend, sample size and accidental influences. A discrepancy exists between the attitude of the motorist towards a speed limit and his actual road behaviour. Introduction of a speed limit influences his actual behaviour only when there is an intensified control.
