Abstract

Questionaires, interviews and quantitative methods alone are not sufficient in social research, but they have to be supplement by field work examination within the community. The nature and type of relations and social bindings within the community, seen as an entity, and the problem of their disruption by e.g. a proposed motorway construction, were investigated. The necessity of such field work is testified by discrepancies in the results with those from an official relocation study. The methods of field work, and the duties of a field worker are summarised. The topics of objectivity in social research are dealt with.
