Abstract

TRB’s Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 2186 contains 17 papers that explore estimating the resilient modulus of subgrade soils using the falling weight deflectometer, quality management of base materials with seismic methods, characterization of a two-layer soil system, performance-based design of deep foundation systems, analysis method for drilled shaft-stabilized slopes, standard penetration test hammers, and cone penetration test sounding and pile driving. This issue of the TRR also examines stiffness of reinforced asphalt pavement over soft organic soils, variability in construction of cement-treated base layers, field rutting performance of various base and subbase materials, resilient modulus of stabilized clay subgrades, modeling of cementitiously stabilized layers in the "Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide," combined use of calcium chloride and fly ash in road base stabilization, soil stabilization with bioenergy coproduct, soft soil stabilization using high-vacuum dewatering with dynamic compaction, post-soil interactions on guardrails near the crown of a slope, and mechanically stabilized earth wall corrosion.
