Abstract

A solution for unreliable and incomplete intensity data of the Dutch main road network. On large parts of the Dutch main road network traffic intensity is continuously measured. However, the reliability of the data is a point of discussion. A method is proposed to handle the inreliability, if any. The method relies on internal consistency. Restrictions are posed on the data to assure consistency within and between different parts of the road. Estimates of real intensities are obtained by lineair regression analyses with some modifications. The goal is twofold. First, the sources of inreliability are traced, after which they can be submitted to further inspection. Second, data are corrected for inreliability to obtain a complete and consistent data set. Some practical applications have shown the usefulness of the method. (Author/publisher)
