Abstract

During the foreseeable future, Canadian roadway authorities will be faced with significant challenges, if the safety of our roadway system is to be maintained. Design standards for roadways and roadside features are being reviewed and will be modified as necessary. Increased attention will be given to systematic identification and elimination of hazardous roadway locations. The increased costs of owning and operating roadway illumination systems has resulted in improved design standards and techniques.
