A survey carried out among 3058 students of three high schools in Japan is described. In the survey, data were obtained on: (1) acquisition of driving license, type and number of vehicle owned by the student's family, purpose for driving, involvement in traffic accidents; (2) awareness of and attitude towards traffic safety, and (3) knowledge of traffic rules and traffic safety. A study was made of the effects of awareness and attitude of respondents on their behaviour on the road.
