Abstract

This report deals with the measurement of commonly sought characteristics of macroscopic traffic flow by means of automatic sensing equipment using a high-speed digital computer for data collection and analysis. Independent measurements of speed, density, flow, and kinetic energy are obtained from ultrasonic presence detectors and from an optical speed trap.
