Some experiences testing driver's seats of public service [transport] vehicles P.S.V.

Abstract

Proper design of P.S.V. driver's seats represents a basic safety question. The driver's comfort, his personal safety is regarded as a primary factor from safety operation aspects of P.S.V. in Hungary already now there is no driver's seat production, the driver's seats for the Hungarian bus production are imported from abroad. For the sake of elaboration of requirements and checking test procedures, wide test series have been carried out, on the basis of which the elaboration of the national standards and administrative regulations are in operation now. The paper presents a short report on test procedures and characteristic results in connection with installation possibilities of safety-belts, seat behaviour from passive safety aspects, seat-back strength, abrasion test of seat cushion plate and oscillation behaviour of driver's seats.
