Abstract

The background of regional modelling is discussed by considering the relationship between the aims and kinds of planning and the stage of social development in concerned areas. The logical and philosophical background of the scientific tradition is treated to point out some basic errors associated with an indiscreet adoption of elements of the scientific tradition in regional planning practice. Some common practices in urban and regional modelling are discussed.
