Abstract

This paper is concerned principally with the Furness trip distribution method. This is an iterative method by which a matrix for forecasting zone-to-zone trips with predetermined row and column sum is obtained from an original matrix whose rows and columns do not sum to the required totals. The original matrix may be obtained either from an origin-and-destination survey or from a trip distribution model.
