Abstract

The categorization of bus operating costs described here differs from the methods in previous papers. There are no fixed-time categories, variable and fixed cost being defined as appropriate to the exercise, and costs are related to duties and direct scheduled cost per route rather than to bus hours. The relevance of direct and statistical costing to different exercises, distinction between marginal and average costs, and allocation of revenue, are discussed.
