Abstract

This chapter reviews the existing literature regarding the effects of in-vehicle distractions (excluding mobile telephones) on driving performance.Although a wide range of in-vehicle sources of distraction have been identified in the literature, at present, relatively few of these have been studied experimentally to determine their effect on driving performance. Thelimited available data that exists is reviewed, and a summary of the major sources of in-vehicle distraction and their effect on driving performance measures is provided in a table.
